Soup allows the user to publish (editable in HTML) text, images, videos, links, quotes and reviews. It allows users to share files (within the limit of 10 MB) and create events. Its interface professes to follow the KISS principle. In March 2015, Soup.io had close to 3.8 million monthly users. In January 2017, Soup.io suffered data loss, and had to be restored over several weeks from a 2015 backup. After that the ownership was transferred to its webhost who will continue running it out of personal interest of the company's CEO. Instapaper can be used via a web-based interface, or through mobile apps for Android and iOS. Within a web browser, a "Read Later" bookmarklet can be used to save pages to a user's personal unread queue on Instapaper. Every article is automatically reformatted to remove excessive formatting and graphics.
